Cultural Heritage
Preservation methods and fruition of the cultural, artistic and landscape heritage
Italy is the country with the greatest cultural, artistic but also landscape heritage in the world consisting of monuments, historical and religious buildings, works of art (sculptures, paintings etc), but also wonderful villages and towns, breathtaking landscapes (the sea, mountains, meadows, woods, volcanoes , natural parks , and moreover, impressive artefacts of the past). No wonder Italy is number one in the world for its 53 sites registered in the World Heritage List followed by China and Spain with respectively 53 and 46.
Nevertheless this huge heritage is difficult to manage and preserve due to numerous issues, such as the substantial funding required and the amount of cultural goods to deal with. However technology may help thanks to systems which enable to better preserve our cultural heritage through constant automated monitoring which allows to preserve its beauty and at the same time make fruibility much safer and simpler.
Sensors which monitor the conditions of a building and are able to detect any critical issues in terms of stability in a country with a high risk of earthquakes like Italy or, furthermore an automated system which is able to collect and process big data giving information about an asset or work of art are but some of the many ways to improve fruibility and better preserve our heritage: data concerning the microclimate of the hosting environment, the number of visitors, conditions in case the work needs to be moved, indicators concerning necessary restoration or any preserving measures etc.
