Restyling the living environment to guarantee safety, health, home care and sustainability
Homes become intelligent organisms with air-conditioning systems, sophisticated electrical appliances, light control systems both from and away from home, security systems: everything is part of a single network whose components, just like the organs of the human body, interact with a central brain and at the same time with one another and communicate with the user through devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops etc which are now part of everyday life. The objective is to make our homes, but also where we work, extremely comfortable, efficient and energy-saving places.
Sensors and devices which are able to recognise and memorize our ways of life and automatically modify the temperature inside our home; technological systems able to make our home safe, protecting it from burglaries, fires, damage due to the breakage of any system; solutions to make living environments sustainable. These are just some of the many examples of micro and nano electronics applied to everyday life.
Challenges inevitably leading to higher quality of life-standards and allowing the public sector to save money. Think about the possibility to increase home care to elderly and ill people thanks to medical devices networking with hospitals and clinics allowing to run both routine and emergency tests from home. For example an electrocardiogram from home and the report from the hospital in real-time and, if the case, immediate medical-aid .
Existing solutions which may enter our homes simply by increasing research in the hardware field in order to obtain more sophisticated, intelligent and cheaper micro-elettronic systems.
